St. Augustine, FL (June 4, 2010) – The Florida Trust for Historic Preservation has recognized A. D. Davis Construction Corp.for its restoration of the Ponce Hall Towers at Flagler College. The company is the recipient of the 2010 Florida Preservation Award along with Kennith Smith, project architect.

A.D. Davis Construction Inspires College’s Gingerbread Builders For New Winter Wonderland Feature

St. Augustine, FL (Dec. 18, 2008) – Visitors to this year’s Winter Wonderland at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre are in for yet another sweet treat. A.D. Davis Construction Corp., sponsors of the attraction’s Ice Slide, has added a custom-built gingerbread house to the scene.

Students at the First Coast Technical College School of Culinary Arts in St. Augustine constructed this house using 50 pounds of gingerbread dough, 10 pounds of royal icing and at least 10 pounds of candy. Aspiring culinarians Kirk Kief, Samantha Pridgen, Victoria Perry and Charles John drew their design, with a little whimsical holiday interpretation, from a showplace Crescent Beach home built by A.D. Davis. The gingerbread house is modeled after the Quinn Residence on Lancaster Place, a three-story 7,770 sq ft beachside residence.

The gingerbread builders added plenty of realistic touches to their completely edible creation (no tasting, please). “They also did cast isomalt sugar for the pool and some of the railings,” said David S. Bearl, program coordinator for the college’s school of culinary arts and business and industry services. “They worked at least 30 hours each on the house so collectively there are quite a few hours involved!”

The work will be on display at the free-admission Winter Wonderland, noon to 10 p.m. daily through Jan. 3 at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, 1340C A1A South.

A donation from A.D. Davis will go to FCTC’s scholarship fund to help students with books, uniforms and tuition, and that’s just a small part of the company’s community involvement and outreach. For more than 50 years, A.D. Davis Construction Corp. has been in continuous operation serving Northeast Florida.
