Vernon DavisVernon Davis
Vernon was born in 1942 at East Coast Hospital in St Augustine, the second son of Andersen Devere, better known as A. D., and Annie Mae Davis.  He attended Fullerwood Elementary School, Orange Street School and Ketterlinus High School.  He was a member of the first class to graduate from the new St. Augustine High School in 1960, playing football, basketball, and baseball.

After graduating from high school, Vernon enrolled in St. Johns River Junior College in Palatka, FL.  He then went on to the University of Florida in January of 1963, joined the Marine Corp in April of 1963, serving 4 years and was honorably discharged in 1967.

Vernon married Donna Toner in September 1965 and moved back to St Augustine in 1967.  Vernon returned to the University of Florida in January 1968, and graduated in June 1970 with a degree in Building Construction. After graduation, the family moved to Greenville, SC to work for Daniel Construction Co, the sixth largest construction company in the world at that time.  They had four children Mike, Todd, Rhett, and Courtney.

When A.D. had open heart surgery in November 1970, Vernon and Donna moved back to St Augustine in May of 1971 to help in the family business.  When A.D. passed away in May of 1984, Vernon became the sole owner.

Vernon has served on the following boards: St. Augustine Planning and Zoning Board, St. Augustine Adjustment/Appeals Board, St. Johns County Adjustment/Appeals Board, St. Augustine Little League Board, Chairman of the St. Johns County Home Builders, in charge of construction of St. Augustine Little League Field, and Head Baseball Coach at St. Joseph Academy for four years.

Vernon’s hobbies consist of tennis, running and bicycling.

Mike DavisMike Davis
Mike Davis was born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1966. Mike returned to St. Augustine in 1971 when his Father came back to help A. D. run the family business.  He has been working for A. D. Davis since the summer of 1981.  Mike worked at Flagler College on the Dorm Renovations on Ponce Hall from 1981 until 1985.  Mike later worked on several houses, additional project at Flagler College and the restoration of the Light Keepers’ House.  Mike worked every summer during High School and College with A.D. Davis.

Mike graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1984.  In 1988 Mike graduated from Florida Southern College with a degree in Communications.  He joined the office staff of A. D. Davis Construction in 1988.  In 1989 while working full time he started working toward his second degree from the University of North Florida.  In 1992 he graduated with a degree in Construction Management.  “It was during this time that I learned the true meaning of organization and planning.  During the early 90’s not everyone had a cell phone.  Making sure that everything was going according to schedule on the jobs while going class was a lot of work.”  Mike passed his State Building Contractor’s exam in December of 1994.

Mike was promoted to Vice President of the Company in 1990.  In 1997 Mike became a partner with his father Vernon in the family business.  In 2002 Mike was blessed to become the third generation to own the business.  Mike has served as the President of the Company since then.

Mike has enjoyed working with the same clients that trusted his Grandfather and Father with their construction projects.  Mike has also worked hard to expand the business and the clients that we serve.  That growth is based on the same principles of quality workmanship, hard work, and trust.  “I was very lucky to have learned from Grandfather and more importantly my Father about doing things the right way.”

When Mike is not working he devotes his time to his family and the community.  Mike has been married to his wife Darcy since 1989.  He has 4 children, Wesley-Katherine, Reese, Ethan, and Matthew, all of which he has coached in basketball.  Mike has served on several boards and community projects in the last 20 years.  “I believe in giving back to a community that gave so much to me when I was growing up.”

Rhett DavisRhett Davis
Rhett Davis was born April of 1978 in St. Augustine, FL. He has been a part of A.D. Davis Construction Company since 1992 when he spent the summer working as a laborer. He continued working each summer for the company from 1992 to 1999 where he recalls “I dreaded working full time on the trash truck in the summers. But looking back on that time, my Dad was right when he always said the job would build character. I believe the experience also played a key role in the development of my work ethic.”

Rhett graduated high school from St. Joseph Academy in 1996 and attended college at the University of Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he joined General Electric in 2001 as a part of their Edison Engineering Development Program, a program he feels was “one of the greatest learning experiences of my life.” During the next 5 years, Rhett worked in GE’s Energy division, where he designed new gas turbines for electrical power distribution. The majority of his time during those years was spent on designing and testing the LMS100 gas turbine, the world’s most efficient simple cycle gas turbine. The LMS100 generates 100 MW of power, which can serve roughly 100,000 homes at a time. Throughout this time, Rhett also attended classes at Carnegie Mellon and earned his Masters in Business Administration in 2006.

Rhett joined A.D. Davis Construction Company in January of 2007. “I have really enjoyed returning home to St. Augustine and working for A.D. Davis. It has been an awesome responsibility trying to continue the legacy created by my grandfather, father, and brother. Yet the challenge has been a welcomed one.”

Rhett serves the City of St. Augustine on the Code Enforcement, Adjustments and Appeals Board. He is also a new member of the St. Augustine Kiwanis Club.

Rhett enjoys spending his free time following Gator athletics and is proud to have personally attended the 1996 Football National Championship, 2006 Basketball National Championship, 2006 Football National Championship, and the 2007 Basketball Final Four. “We chose A.D. Davis Construction to build our home because they enable homeowners to build the house of their dreams. A lot of builders tend to tell you everything you want can’t be done, but not A.D. Davis. They build a house for owners and they never told us ‘no.’ That was very important to us. We knew their longstanding reputation for building a solid, dependable, quality home and we knew we couldn’t go wrong with A.D. Davis.”
